The Sonoma State Historic Park and Petaluma Adobe State Historic Park need volunteer docents. Docents explain exhibits and history to park visitors. Docents lead tours on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. The State Historic Parks sites are: Mission San Francisco Solano, Sonoma Barracks, Toscano Hotel, Vallejo Home and the Petaluma Adobe. Volunteering offers many benefits: meet new and interesting people, provide learning opportunities, enhance your public speaking skills, be involved with the community, and participate in special events. Training is provided and runs seven Saturdays beginning October 2, 2010 and ends November 13, 2010. The first meeting will be at the Barracks in Sonoma. Other training sites include Park tours and special events. After training, a commitment of four hours a month is required. The training is sponsored by the Sonoma/ Petaluma State Historic Parks Association. To sign up for the training and become a docent, please call or email Volunteer Coordinator Jennifer Hanson : (707)939-2149 California State Parks supports equal access. Prior to arrival, visitors with disabilities who need assistance should contact Jennifer Hanson at (707)939-2149.
