Give Your Creativity a Big Ole’ Bear Hug

There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is; nor how valuable it is; nor how it compares to other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. Your have to keep open and aware of urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open.
                              -Martha Graham
The quote above is one of my favorites of all time. Why? Because it encapsulates the essential importance of creativity, as well as the blocks that arise in opposition to the fruiting of the creative impulse.

And I also believe, as Martha Graham says so beautifully, that is our responsibility and delight to be able to act on these “quickenings,” this pulsing life force that beckons from both shadow and light. For me, that impulse occurs as a desire to write and play music, for others it might be photography, painting or cooking. Whatever your particular drive is, stay motivated, do the work, set sail on the seas of stoke and get ‘er going!

Hopefully, this blog will give you lots of ideas for just how to do that. From kickstarting a creative writing habit (or any creative habit, really) to following through on ideas and projects, we hope to provide you impetus and inspiration for becoming a true creative adventurer. Let’s get started!
